Yeah 4 upper divs, I'm a history major however one of the classes is a Poli Sci. So basically it means that I've always got a ton of reading to work my way through. Have you had a hard time making friends at Cal?

I am sick of my ccc as well, but i am appreciative of it.

As a science major, not having a curve is great. U don't have to compete w/ w. really smart people.

I know very smart people who got C in science classes at ucla.

I am very appreciative of that about cc.

yes i am allena. i have met a wonderful boyfriend here last semester, but i dont feel well rounded socially. i usually take a little bit of time to warm up to my surroundings, but at the same time, it gives me the blues!

yeah 4 upper divs...wow good luck with that. i did that last semester, all upper divs in my major, which i found out later i wasnt supposed to do, and im still recovering physiologically!

Interesting...

:D ....how sweet... :)

Cal girl, don't worry, you'll be fine....I'm happy that you are experiencing the 'college adventure'....

sighs .... I feel I'm stuck in a hole with so much crap and complexities that I can't seem to resolve in my head..........:( o well

homework and studying seems to be the best antidote....:D

thanks futebolista :)
is the hole you're referring to your CC or your own personal world

...no i go to ucsd .....

'is the hole you're referring to your CC or your own personal world?'

I really don't know how to answer that....it's been so long that I've construed them together.....

ohhhh ok, i misunderstood from your other post as you were hoping to go to ucsd. how long you been going there?

haha, sd can't be THAT bad can it? i mean i've heard its boring and people are anti social but is it really that crappy?

It's been four quarters now.

UCLA and UCB(98 days to go)...

UCSD and UCSB(51 days to go)...

nah hobo, SD is a good school for academics and the profs, esp in science, are great, but the thing is that it is so far from where I live.

I have a single parent and ,financially as well as personally, it sucks.

"i mean i've heard its boring and people are anti social but is it really that crappy?"

haha, you make it sound like it's nothing...Yes, the campus truly is dead, esp. on the weekends or any time when students aren't at class. Nobody really cares about politics, culture or anything. They're either drinking, smoking, having sex or playing video games (for the guys)...I need a car...;)

Woah! Are you serious... UCSD is one of my top choices but after hearing this, I may have to reconsider my top choices. By the way, what are the UCs with good social environment?

kevin,

There is the occasional frat rush, but I think you really need to go off campus, especially with a car, to enjoy this place...

Also, what are you looking for when you say 'good social environment'?

If you mean like parties and just lots of activity, I would say UCLA meets that criteria pretty well.

Uh huh, i don't wanna get into the trap of hasty generalization (or fallacy of anecdotal evidence in this case) of hearing one person saying UCSD is bad and actually believe it is bad... yeah may be visiting UCSD would provide me the real answer.

I went to San Diego sometimes and the place is kind of rich and peaceful and some friends enjoy UCSD a whole lot; they even say UCSD is the most beautiful campus among all the UCs (the pictures they take at UCSD are nice :))

Sorry for the unclear term "good social environment," but you get what i mean already: activities, school spirit and so on...UCLA has good social environment; that is nice to hear... how about other UCs or may be USC?

futebolista,
take the not caring part, partying and general apathy and multiply by 3 and that's UCR =). But people are generally pretty nice and i kind of enjoy the laid back atmosphere, except sometimes its TOO laidback.

hobo, but you must remember that you (you and/or parents) are paying like 18-20K per annum (if you dorm)...i'd like to get more from my Uni.

The thing is that, with all the UCs having almost identical tuition/board, a person going to UCSC ends up paying the same as a person in UCB/UCLA...

and Kevin, I absolutely agree with you. I have my own preferences that can be very different from others...but I believe that you won't have an accurate idea unless you've lived here for at least 2 months. You can also take summer session courses here...that would be best time for the sun and beach!

As for USC, I think it has a very beautiful campus, similar to ucla, but the neighborhood is dangerous...They also have a football team, so there's a lot of spirit surrounding the school.

I live in San Diego and have friends that go to UCSD. If anyone is thinking about UCSD for social life I hope you are 21. The campus IS beautiful and in the middle of La Jolla (possibly one of the ritziest neighborhoods in the state, MAYBE the country) but the social life is horrendous. Even the frats are weak for parties and such. You do have areas like downtown san diego (about 10 minutes or so away) and pacific beach. Both have a young crowd, lots of bars/clubs, and restaurants. UCSD students drive to San Diego State for parties.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a message promoting parties or lack of them. This is simply a native San Diegan's opinion of UCSD and the surrounding area.

Anyone in the area of UCLA who could give a simliar description of the social life?

Yeah, it depends on what kind of social things you like. If you look at numbers like amount of student organizations, UCLA and Cal are the top I think. Both boast about their hundreds of groups.
