so you guys think the SD decision is the most accurate predictor of cal and ucla chances?

i agree with kyle as well... i applied to UCSD without any intention of going, mostly because they don't have my exact major. I just wanted to see if i got in so i have some options in case my top 3 reject me.

its not an accurate predictor of cal and ucla but if you don't get into SD chances are you won't get into the other two.

I think since SD is the third hardest UC to get admitted to, it is more of an indicator than SB, I, or R. However, it is not on the level of Cal or UCLA, so I'm not saying "if i get into UCSD i'll get into UCLA", but I'm saying "If I don't get into UCSD, I won't get into UCLA".

Also, on a side note, I live like 5 miles from UCSD and UCSD's campus sucks. It has some pretty scenery, but the buildings are all ugly and a lot of buildings for admin. and stuff are portables. I like more of the traditional looking brick campuses like UCLA and USC. Also the parking pass is 530 bucks, and you still have to take a shuttle a few miles across highway 5 from the parking lot.

wow, I'm starting to think I should have saved my application money and not applied to UCSD!

Correct Kyle...unappealing to say the least.

nah by no means is UCSD not a good school.. ill be a lot happier there than here.

ahhahah WillDO, you change your mind again? :D

I am so nervous that I puked.

Jeez Nikkei, are you serious? Relax, dude. You can rate the UCs by how they approach the personal statement. Only UCLA and Cal give it real consideration; the others, including UCSD, don't.

Not getting into UCSD might be a fair indicator of also being rejected from Cal and UCLA, but there are too many other factors involved, such as the highly selective majors at UCSD, etc.

UCSD is very cold about how they do admissions. They assign you a score based on a number of factors. If your score is high enough you're in, if it's not, then you're not. So UCSD I don't think uses the personal statments.

Yep, they don't, allena. The spreadsheets have been linked here that show which schools use it and which dont.

good thing UCLA counts essays crosses fingers

ucsd is a very good school.

ucsd is a great school academically. I wouldn't expect to get much else out of it.

I go to UCSD..

The atmosphere here in UCSD is essentially boring but if you have a knack of picking the right parties and hanging out with the right people, you are bound to have a great time on the weekends....I fortunately fall in the same category....The short walk to the beach is tremendous and the beaches near the campus is pretty clean and appealing...so its absolutely wrong saying that socially UCSD sucks...only the RSO's are a pain since they tend to write anyone up for small issues....

Talking from the academics point of view, in general, Math professors are pretty bad but professors in Sciences and Engineering, and the general Sciences are just superb....If you have the desire to excel, you sure have a lot of opportunities...In UCSD, no one is going to hand you a cushy job or a research project but you have to approach the professor or the relevant people and make them feel that u r gonna be an asset to them.......

If anyone has any questions about UCSD, feel free to pm me or send me an email...

Good luck with your admissions!!

pepsi,

i think u were in my MATH 20A section with Paul Horn.

BTW, i agree with you for the most part on ucsd. I haven't had too much fun here and I dont drink...

Besides the sciences( I really enjoyed G-chem), the humanities department (esp. lit) is very strong too. I've taken a few upper division German lit courses and I was really impressed.

UCLA and UCB (69 Days to go)...

UCSB and UCSD (22 days to go)...

UCR (7 days to go)...

Where's the praise for UCR?

gogo UCR scotty bears?
