Constant Gardener was great. Crash was bad.

What an insightful analysis. In fact, if I were a teacher I'd give you an A+ for that one. Let's all talk in monosyllabic sentences/phrases and just utter responses.

Tarzan good. Jane pretty.

Critical comprehension skills? Argumentative writing? For the birds. Oh how liberated I feel!

Though this thread has gone slightly off topic, maybe it's just the critic and screenwriter deep inside of me that believes if you're going to take time to form an opinion on something (especially complex films), back it up with solid claims/premises. Er, who am I kidding? Crash good. Brokeback Mountain gay. Ahhhhh, much better.

hahaha. Kudos, you crack me up!

eh.. not into the whole awards thing. I watch movies for purely entertainment value so i don't appreciate movies such as rent or brokeback.. basically if something doesn't get blown up or maimed within 5 minutes i'm snoozing.

i checked my email just few seconds ago it said, "missing documents unable to process admmision application".

I just so frickin nervous. But then i noticed it was from CSUN. LOL

hobo. most of the movies that i liked over the years have not been nominated, AMerican Pie, Old School, road trip, legally blonde, starski and hutch, taxi.

The application deadline has passed.

That was a bit harsh. I don't think the poster planned on starting a debate about the topic.

Lets not insult the analytical skills of someone we don't know. We all want to keep the atmosphere friendly and invite observers to share their opinions, regardless of the context. It helps others who think the same thing not feel intimidated, ashamed, or afraid to post in the future.

This forum really is no place for a discussion on movies, unless you are talking about college admissions movies.

"What an insightful analysis.... "

I had no idea certain individuals here were so critical/elitist. Spare me.

Oh, you guys crack me up sometimes. Let's take off our P.C. glasses for a second and have a sense of humor. It's good for you. Really, it is. My post was highly tongue in cheek. If you fail to realize that, then well, I guess I made my point about reading comprehension skills.

gabe, i'd rather talk about movies than start conflicts w/ people, like u've been doing. WHy do u even care? We talked about everything on this thread. From valentines day to homework. We have 56 days left till UCLA/CAL acceptances are releasedm so chill out please.

Online classes are a b****.

An insult wrapped in humor is still an insult.
It wasn't even funny. Pretentious, yes. Funny, no.

It was uncalled for and you know it. This has nothing to do with reading comprehension skills (or whatever non-relevant point your trying to make), it has everything to do with you being respectful. It's amazing how often people get away with being racist, sexist, or at the very least obnoxious by claming others are being ‘too politically correct’, it's absurd.

Matt, thank god you've showed me the light. How dare I try to make a point by using humor! I apologize, and it'll never happen again.

What I was saying is this: "If you're going to make an opinion on something, it does no one any good by saying "This movie was good. This movie was bad." It's elementary. Elaborate people. Provide examples. I sound like an English teacher, but it's true. If you disagree, that's fine.

I think Richard Pryor would disagree with your assertion about "getting away with being racist...through humor". In fact, I think humor is one of the best tools to talk about controversial ideas because it comes at you in a non-threatening way.

The only college admission movie i can think of is Orange County lol.

seen that. Stealing Harvard is another one, not a very good one either. Although, I am big tom green fan.

Now, "girl next door" is a great one especially since it contains nudity of that hot blonde girl.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265208/

I reallly recomend seeing that.

ANd "risky business" with TOm Cruz is a classic.

Orange county is good. I love Elisha Cuthbert. she is Only reason i went to the movie the girl next door.

"I think Richard Pryor would disagree with your assertion about "getting away with being racist...through humor". In fact, I think humor is one of the best tools to talk about controversial ideas because it comes at you in a non-threatening way."

Do you watch the Boondocks on Cartoon network's adult swim?
Great show. Mcgruder's a great satirist. Show comes on Sundays at 11. It takes all the dumb things people say and do and shoves it right back at you in cartoon form. I especially like the MLK episode. He comes back from the dead to tell it like it is. That’s more my style, direct, no dancing around it. Probably Richard Pryor’s style post-Africa too. Humor can be a good start but it's still far from a good solution.

Anyway, you quoted me wrong, I said people get away with being racist (among other things) by saying others are being too stiff or too P.C..

Hey! See. It wasn't that hard. ;)

Yes and no. I think people pull the race card way more often than people pull the P.C. card. Let's not get off on a tangent of racism. This is more of a conversation about using humor to get a point across. Just because you didn't think my comments were humorous does not make it so. Nikkei thought it was, so that's debateable. I was coming from that standpoint whether or not you agree with it.

That may be so, but when I say it like that, I sound like I have a stick up my ass. I'd rather not sound so serious because I don't really take it seriously. I thought it was funny that luba could make such bold assertions without backing it up. Thus, I called him out on it in my own comedic way. Any questions?

yeah...i agree with highschoolda...i am pretty sure that a lot of ppl are really tense at times thinking about admission decisions: "oh my god, did i do this right," "oh lord, i can't believe i wrote THAT in my essay," and most of the god awful "what will i do if i don't get in?" so...when we're talking about valentine's day, homework, sandkick's 21st bday, midterm and, in this recent case, movies...it is a welcoming relief. so why not just enjoy ourselves a little bit while we wait out the ucla/cal acceptance day altogether??! damn if anything...it brings a little bit more sanity to this thread.

speaking of which, i recommend the newly released "madea's family reunion" to anyone who hasn't seen it. the granny in it is hilarious!!!

and it's only 56 days to cal/ucla acceptances now??? damnnnn where has the time gone....
