UC decision dates...

i wonder if cal and ucla are taking the longest because of the volume of apps....or if they just want to make us wait that much longer to torture us since they are two of the top schools hahah.

i'm pretty sure its the latter. They want you to get accepted to the other UC's before they break your heart.

...then why wasn't this the case for freshmen?

no clue.. i remember it took UCLA and Cal a while to reject me as a freshman. It gave me hope. Damn them.

I don't think it's the volume of Apps. UCLA actually has a lot less applicants this year than years past (cal had more tho interstingly enough).

haha pobre hobo...yea after i was rejected from Cal, they didn't even send a letter...like they didn't want to have anything to do with us rejects...o well, that's what happens when demand way outstrips supply.

i remember on Cal's "Acceptance Certificate" they wrote, "this is the day you been waiting for, the day you hear you got into Cal." i was thinking....damn....they must have purposely made their announcements on the latest day possible just so they could make that "grand entrance" haha

Matt30, the work at UCLA is much different then it was at my CC. I'm a History major, so this is based on that. First off there is less overall "work". I never have homework or things of that nature anymore. Generally most of my classes have been a final and a midterm, and in some cases the class will have a paper (10-20 pages is average) however that is not in all classes. While you'll have less thigns to turn in, your midterm and final will be worth a huge part of your grade. Generally the break down is your final will be worth 25% or so, and the final 75% of your grade. Professors also expect more on these exams then they would have at a CC, so be aware of that. Most of the work you will have is reading, which is not "optional" like I found most of the reading at my CC to be. It's not at all rare however for me to have several hundred (I've gone over a thousand pages a few times now) pages of reading per week. As far as being competitive, that really depends on the major. With all that said, it is more difficult than my CC was by far, however it's doable.

Cal_Girl, I've not yet decided on a senior thesis. I've got a topic in mind for one, but I'm not sure if I'm going to actually write it.

I wonder if I would get lynched at Cal if someone found out I had this username...

I also wonder how many of the Cal undergrads want to go to the Farm for gradschool...

Willdo, overall Berk and UCLA still have more apps than the other UCs. I think that is a big, if not the main, part of it. But why, for instance, Cal has moved their date to be AFTER UCLA supposedly starts (a 1 day difference), I think that could be status--they want to be the last to give you the decision (UCLA vs. Cal).

HAHAHA i'm reporting you to the rally committee

Hi guys, long time lurker; first time poster. I've been checking back here a lot, and it seems that I'm the only one who got a call from Cal. They were reviewing my application and were curious to know whether or not the academic renewal (which I had mentioned I would be applying for on my app) went through and to which classes it applied. It did go through, so I of course told them yes.

But this is killing me. I have no idea what this means. Do you think they wouldn't have called if they weren't giving me serious consideration?

I'm a linguistics major with a 3.7, by the way.

welcome mrmuirc. i can't speak for Cal, but this by far does not seem like bad news...3.7 GPA is pretty competitive also. i dont know anything else about you, so if you dont mind sharing, what are your stats?

Well, my major doesn't have any prereqs aside from developing a "more than superficial acquaintance" with a related field, which I've done. Umm... other than that I don't really know what's applicable. I did poorly my first semester at CC, but I've had a 4.0 ever since, taking 20-24 units per semester. Very few ECs, just some community service and a couple other trivials.

Did you mention the academic renewal in the personal statement, comments section, where?

I had mentioned it several places, but the lady seemed to be referring to what I wrote in the comments section of the UC update form.

i didn't c anything re: admission decision on ucsd site...

seems like we still have a long waiting period ahead of us.

I am feeling kinda depressed about that.

have so much to study this weekend.

I have class Mon-Fri at 8:00 AM. It's starting to take toll on me.

alright i am gona try to go to sleep. good night guys.

Looks like countdown needs readjusting. Not seeing anything about SD on 15th on their website is not a positive sign.

I think you can't gather much from the fact they contacted you, except perhaps (what should already be obvious given your stats) that they are indeed giving you consideration. Good luck.

By the way, did you mention it in any of the update forms for Berkeley?

No, I don't believe that I did. Just the UC update form and the "additional comments" box on the application.

Oh, I was just wondering if they had fully gone into your APP yet or if they had perhaps just seen it in your update and then investigated, who knows. When did you submit the update?
