UC Denver Commercial Music Program

Hi Everyone,

I rarely hear anyone on here mention the MEIS program at the U of Colorado in Denver. Do any of you know anyone currently in that program or anyone that has recently graduated from it? My D has just been accepted to the Commercial Music program for vocals, but she says that she doesn’t want to go there. I was hoping that if she could speak to someone and get some positive feedback about the program, the school and Denver in general, that it may help to open her mind about it all. She hasn't been there yet, she sent in a video audition.

This is her last option as the other schools that she applied to have all rejected her, either musically or academically. There were only four others, so there weren’t many to apply to in the first place. For anyone that is familiar with the Pop/Contemporary music programs in the US, there are very few. There is definitely a problem with supply and demand here.
Her next plan is to take a gap year and reapply to one of the schools that rejected her as well as look into going to school in England. They have many more schools there that offer what she wants.

Thank you in advance for any input.

I know of two brothers who have had their own band for several years who are attending the UCD program. I believe one is doing the music business track and one is doing the recording arts track; the one I spoke with last semester seemed very enthusiatic about the program, though to that point he had taken more gen ed than MEIS classes. The young men want to position themselves to have more control over the production and marketing, etc, of their music.

As far as Denver goes, it’s a casual kind of city with much milder winter weather (most of the time) than many people assume. Having a major airport might make it easier to travel back and forth.
