UC does financial status matter?

Hey guys!
Upcoming senior and starting to look into UC’s.
With the academics on the side, I was kind of debating with my friend whether or whether not financial status matters?
Like does being rich or being poor affect your chances to get into a UC school?
Thanks!

No, it does not.

From a UC’s admission’s office perspective, no.

If you’re referring to having financial resources to provide test prep courses and/or opportunities which may otherwise be difficult for families without these resources to provide, then, yes, probably.

UC prides itself on educating a high number of first generation college students, which indirectly correlates to low family income. Campuses that evaluate applications holistically may assign preference (in the form of points) to applicants who are the first in their family to attend college. Points are also assigned for “hardship” conveyed in the essay and supplemental information, which may also be correlated to low income.
