Last year, was dismissed from college as a 4th year engineering major. Was dealing with many issues at the time (family, financial, depression). Obtained 180 units from my school (a UC) with a 2.7 cummulative GPA before I was dismissed.
Need some advice on my options, with a heavy emphasis on getting a BS degree. Fast forward to today, I’ve got my act together (Got a job, mentally more healthier, resolved my issues). Realized my original engineering major wasn’t something I was interested in, was only going through the motions. During the time since the dismissal, realized I enjoy coding infinitely more (practicing on the side) and would like to pursue CS.
- Finish off where I left off in the UC. Though not too sure if they’ll accept me since my required classes will exceed the unit cap. Leverage the Engineering degree to CS.
- Apply to an online degree program. Thinking CSULA CS BS Degree. Though it requires good standing from your last college under its admission criteria (I left in bad standing). Would it be possible to apply directly now? Or is it possible to go to CC for a quarter and apply to this then?
- Going back to CC, look to transfer. I’m pretty lost into how many units/requirements can be transferred from UC to CC. For the most part finished all Breadth Courses and other non-engineering req’s in the UC. Will I have to start over? Scared at how long it’ll take to start anew. I know transferring back to the UC wouldn’t be likely due to the units that get transferred from UC to UC.
