UC ELC Program

My friend & I got guaranteed to UC Davis because of the ELC program, and my friend was wondering whether she'd no longer be guaranteed if she got a really low ACT score. Does being guaranteed under ELC mean that you can get any standardized test score?

Thanks!

I’d check the acceptance letter. There’s probably some fine print somewhere to protect them. The UCD website may have some details. Go do some research (or suggest she do some) now – it’s good to get used to it b/c you’ll need those skills in college!

I checked in their website & all it says is:

Students identified as eligible in the local context must do the following to complete their eligibility to the University:
Graduate from high school with a UC GPA of 3.0 or higher
Complete all coursework requirements for freshman admission by the end of senior year
Take two SAT Subject Tests and either the ACT Assessment plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test no later than December of senior year of high school.
Apply to the University by the November 30 application deadline

Test score won’t matter for basic admission; the reason they created ELC was to admit top 4% to a UC without relying on test score. However, you still must take and submit test scores and they can matter for ultimate program you might want, i.e., you are not guaranteed any chosen major, for example if you want engineering, they may still look at test scores to determine if you will get it.

If you got ELC and UCD sent you a letter, doesn’t matter what your test scores are. You should go to the UCD discussion. There is an administrator over there that can answer all your questions. They were very helpful answering my questions before.

thanks everyone!

It’s no problem if she’s applying to arts & sciences, but specialized programs like theater or dance require more than just an app.

Don’t forget subject tests.
