I have a 4.0 weighted UC GPA. I’m wondering what my chances are of getting into UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara for Engineering. Does anyone know what the average weighted GPA’s are for engineering at those 3 schools?
What type of Engineering? What are your ACT/SAT test scores? HS course rigor? EC’s? All aspects of your application will be considered although your UC capped weighted GPA will definitely one of the top considerations.
Different Engineering disciplines can have different averages.
For UCI 2017:
Average UC GPA (capped weighted): 4.09
Average SAT: 1339
For UCSB 2016:
Average UC GPA (capped weighted) ranges: 4.04-4.25
Average SAT: 1380
UCD, unable to find specific Engineering data but as a prospective Engineering applicant you want to be close to the average or higher for the best chances:
Average UC GPA (capped weighted): 4.10
Average SAT: 1345
I’d say the odds are 70/30 against you for all 3 but, strong test scores, ECs and essays could get you in.
Apply broadly, UCSC, UCR and UCM as well as SDSU, CSULB are all good candidates.
good luck.
I got a 29 on the ACT, I’m considering either mechanical or electrical engineering and I’ve had about 50 volunteering hours along with high school basketball for 4 years (2 years JV, 2 years varsity)
Neither UCI or UCSB gives their Engineering averages for the ACT but you can convert.
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT and not major specific:
UCSB: 28-33
UCD: 26-32
UCI: 26-32
No guarantees with the UC’s and hopefully you have some solid safety and match schools on your list.
Best of luck.
