My friend just got an e-mail from UCSC saying that he needs to take the entry level writing test for the UCs. It says anyone who didn't score a 680 on the writing SAT, a 30 on the ACT or a 5 on the AP exam has to take it. I don't satisfy any of those. Do I really have to do this? I didn't get the e-mail, and they haven't told me anything about it on the website or in the mail. The nearest place that I can take the exam is two hours away, so it would be really nice if I didn't have to take it.

Actually you only need a 3 on the AP exam. Here are the 5 ways of satisfying the writing requirement: UCSB Writing Program - Subject A Requirement

Yes you will probably have to take it. If the only thing you are worried about is the two hour drive, may be you can talk to the college administration and check if you can take the test after moving in for fall (take it at SB a week before your classes start).

If I were you, I would get done with it. As the Fall term gets closer, you will have more things to do.

I am going to be there for the FSSP thing. Is there a way I can take it there? If not, I want to take it there. It sounds like I can take it there during the first week.
