UC Essay formatting issues???

I went to copy/paste my essays into the boxes on the UC applications and I'm having some issues. I tried copying from Pages and Plain Text files and both ways, my essays lose their indents and are filled with question marks and random letters where certain punctuation marks were.
How do I keep this from happening? Most importantly, how do I go about distinguishing the difference between my paragraphs?

I am seeing the same thing. Also is there any way to put some minimal formatting such as Italics, bold, underline?
Thank you for any help or pointers.

I’m having the same problem!!!
All the quotation marks and apostrophes turned into a??'s. And a bunch of the indents are gone. Does anyone have any solutions??!?

Okay, so if you copy/paste text including quote marks and apostrophes, it will turn into a??. That is unavoidable. However, if you delete that offending text, and type in quote marks/apostrophes where needed directly on the application, it’ll take care of that problem.

There are no indentations for the first paragraph. You can add indentations for paragraphs thereafter, but it will just look strange. I just put a space after each paragraph.

No, you cannot do minimal formatting such as Italics/bold/underline.

Sorry I’m answering this from memory, I submitted a while back and do not have access to the editing stage of application.

But I hope this helped!

Thank you!
You’re right, if you change the quote marks/apostrophes directly on the application OR on the txt doc., it works. If you do it on the txt. doc you can clearly see the difference between the curly quotation marks…and the straight quotation marks/apostrophes which is what the application wants.

I read, and they don’t want indents. So just hit “enter” for where you want the new paragraphs.
