UC Essay Question(s)

Hello all,

I have some quick questions regarding the UC essay (first prompt).

  • Is it okay/beneficial to mention in your essay how a UC campus will help you reach your dreams and aspirations?
  • Should the essay be in present or past tense?
  • What are some necessary words to include in the essay (i.e. "strive", "aspiration", "dream", etc.)

No it is not beneficial to mention how a campus will help you reach your dreams.

Past tense to describe how an event has shaped you.

Only use words you would normally use. There aren’t “necessary” words.

Those ‘necessary’ words you mention are generic, try to use your own words and make your essay personal and specific. Do not include generalities like ’ attending a UC campus would be the vehicle to attain my aspirations’ ‘attending a UC campus would be the first step toward my dreams’ that is garbage.
