*UC Essay Tips & What Works & Doesn't Work List*

<p>ENOUGH! Let's make a good thread for UC applicants..
Everyone applies to UCs. Can people who have been accepted actually give a list of tips and describe what they did with the UC essays here? It would be so much easier than having a billion people post "UC essay help!" or "I need advice"..... Come on guys, we're all smart.. should have done this a while ago..</p>

<p>Has some general tips for personal statements. As for UC personal statements, AVOID the cliche and generic “my parents forced me to do something I didn’t like/ my parents have too many over expectations” and “I became independent out of that”. Quite a few of my my friends have wrote something along those lines, and they all sound the same.</p>

<p>i don’t see what’s wrong with becoming independent. it’s something all of us have to do at one point, and it might as well reflect sooner or later.</p>

<p>then again, i guess it depends on the way your friends wrote it. maybe they treated it in a negative light. i’ve learned it’s best not to conclude a thought or paragraph in a negative direction.</p>
