UC Essays for Regent Scholars?

<p>When considering who is going to be a Regent Scholar, do the UCs look at the essays?</p>

<p>I think they do for some UCs. Not all is my guess.</p>

<p>Not sure about UCI, but high stats help. But I know UCB gives Regents to lower stats but good essays or ECs.</p>
