UC essays help

can you tell me if you think these topics are good?

**How have you taken advantage of eductional opportunities? **I was thinking I would talk about AP Music Theory, Choir class, and an afterschool music composition class offered by my school. I would then lead into how I spend free time writing and recording music of my own.

I know that this doesn't tell them anything about how challenging my courseload is (how many APs were offered to me, how many I took), but is it okay to twist the question to talk about how I took classes in music (albeit not necessarily challenging classes) at school and talk about my extra-curriclar passion for music at the same time?

What would you bring to UC? I thought I would talk about my work with YouthSpeaks, a non-profit organization in San Francisco promoting poetry and spoken word. I'm not really sure what to say about how it gives me something to bring to UC... I guess exposure to different cultures, work experience, connection with community...??? I don't really know where to take this, I could use some suggestions.

Anything else? Well.... I'm not really sure what to put here. I was thinking I could pick a fictional character and say why s/he inspires me (just because it's also a CommonApp prompt) or else maybe talk about my experience in the school play (never took drama, auditioned just for fun, suddenly was given fairly big role, was intimidated, overcame it).... I don't really know, though.

i know this post is kind of all over the place...... but that's kind of what's going on in my head, too! i'd really appreciate some direction from you people who know the ins and outs of the UC admissions process. thanks.
