"Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations."

For the UC prompt, is it necessary or extremely important to include your major (or what you want to be) in explaining your dreams and aspirations.

Im still thinking about how my "world" shaped my dreams and aspirations in a way that does not include my major because I just recently decided on my major.

If you keep in mind that these personal statements exist so the admissions officers can learn about who you are and how you intend to contribute to the university once there, you will find it easier to write. Just write about yourself and what makes you tick as far as your education is concerned. What do you want to do in college? Why will it be a better school with you in it? A sincerely written essay will show the people reader what you hope to accomplish and how you intend to do it, using examples from your world to show how you were molded. It doesn't have to be major specific at all. It can be about learning in general. Just write about things they cannot find in the rest of the application. Be yourself- the last thing you want is to get into a school where you do not fit, regardless of how highly ranked it is. Good luck.

To tell you the truth guys, UC essays are worthless. To UCs, only your grades, class rank, and Standardized Test scores matter. Nothing else is important and they have too many applications to look at to spend time on yours. The essay is read but is rarely considered to be the objectives that determines acceptance or rejection. Think about it this way - the UC system receives more college applications than any other school system in the US, they rarely have time to go over your college material. Acceptance is usually based on how many available spots they have.
