So I got accepted to UCI Claire Trevor for Piano, however I am out of state. Obviously OOS tuition is very high and I have heard they do not give out Financial Aid to OOS. Is it worth it for me to call and ask if there is anything I can do to lower the tuition costs? Or should I assume I will have to pay full price? TIA
Assume you will be full pay. The UCs give NO need based aid to OOS students, and they are not going to make an exception for you.
The UCs also give precious little in merit aid to OOS students. Are you a tippy top applicant??
I would call the music department to see if you qualify for a music scholarship.
@musicnat and @BearHouse
Music scholarships are awarded based on the strength of the audition. This student would have needed to audition and likely would have already received music merit notification…at least that was the experience when our music major auditioned. He got his music merit awards with his acceptances.
You will be full pay.
@thumper1 Agreed. However, he likely did audition since he was admitted for piano. The only admissions decisions out already for UCI are for regents, honors and some Claire Trevor students. So, they are likely interested in OP since he has already been admitted. I’d rather offer the advice to call (or email) the music department rather than assume he will be full pay (which me may be).
Have you run the NPC? I know many music students are depending on merit scholarships. My friend’s son was negotiating with the school through 4/30 to receive his scholarship before he could put down the deposit a few years ago. If you do not get one and you cannot afford the full CoA, you would have to move forward and look at another school.
Thanks for the input everyone, I will give them a call and see what can be done but I won’t get my hopes up too high
