UC GPA and Repeated Courses

I had a question on repeating courses; at my school when a student repeats a course their original grade is removed completely and replaced with the new grade. The old grade is replaced with an "R" on the transcript. So it would look something like this on it:

Grade 10:
English Class 1: R

Grade 11:
English Class 1: B

D and F Grades: If you have earned a D or F in an "a-g" course, you must repeat the course with a grade of C or better in order to apply it toward your Subject Requirement. The original D or F grade will not be included in the GPA calculation, and the new grade will be used. If you repeat a course in which you initially earned a grade of C, the second grade will not be used.

But its the same even if the class grade was initially a C rather than a D or F, and its impossible to know the original grade. So how would the UC's calculate a GPA for something like this, and what grade level would they apply the repeated course to?

That's interesting. When I went to the UC Counselor conference last fall, I was sure they went over this and stated they averaged the two grades and used the averaged grade in your calcualtion. I'm looking it up on Monday!

I would suspect they would expect you to explain what the "R" is on your transcript. Best to explain it in your original application under the section that asks about "Is there anything else about your application you would like us to know..."

The CSU system will take the highest grade if the course is repeated.

Hmm...

Let me know what you find out, thanks!

Does anyone know anything about this?

I still would like to know about this...
