When calculating the UC GPA, does the system allow students to select the best grades from 8 qualifying honors classes, or the first 8 taken?

when you do the math, it does not matter – any 8 will do, as long as they are Soph & Jr grades. All UC-approved honors and AP/IB courses earn the bonus point, which are capped at 8 semester’s worth for eligibility purposes, but uncapped for ELC.

right… the math works out the same. Just add 8 points to your total. It is not the classes that are the issue, it is the 8 point cap on bonus points.

Now, THIS IS CRITICAL!!! That cap is for UC ELIGIBILITY, not Admissions!!!

Do you see the distinction? Your UC GPA is effectively capped at about 4.4

But, admisssions at Berkeley and UCLA, and the others don’t cap your GPA when evaluating your admissions application, assuming you qualify for UC System-wide admissions with the capped GPA. They know what your “UC GPA” is, but they also know that your GPA for UCLA, as an example, might be 4.6 (if 10th, 11th grade were all As ,and 60% of those classes were AP or UC approved Honors.).
