UC GPA calculation

I am a junior at a is top 100 high school in the nation, located in CA. My gpa (weighted 9-11) is 4.48, unweighted is 3.96 (9-11), and uc is 4.65 or 4.7 (10-11), depending on whether or not i factor in the extra fine art i took during my sophomore year.

the weighted and non-weighted GPA's factor in the extra fine art.

will the extra fine art be factored into my UC gpa? Will i be thought of as a lesser applicant because i took a summer school course (non-remedial)?

I don’t see how it is possible for anyone to get higher than a 4.4 for a UC GPA if you are taking a full load of classes (5 or 6 per semester) and only count the 8 allowable semesters with a grade bump.

If a student is taking 7 classes (zero to 6th periods) and getting all As and taking 8 semesters of AP courses, the highest GPA would only be 4.28 and it only goes up to a 4.4 if the student takes only 5 courses (the minimum) and receives all As.

sophomore and junior years

7 courses x 2 semesters x 2 years x 4.0 (As) = 112 points
8 semesters of grade bump = 8 points
112+8 = 120 points divided by 28 semester grades = 4.28 GPA

6 courses x 2 semesters x 2 years x 4.0 (A’s) = 96 points
8 semesters of grade bump = 8 points
96+8=104 points divided by 24 semester grades = 4.33 GPA

5 courses x 2 semesters x 2 years x 4.0 = 80 points
8 semesters of grade bump = 8 points
80+8=88 points divided by 20 semester grades = 4.4 GPA

You can get 4.7 on fully weighted, one of my students did this year so I know it’s possible. The 8-semester cap is mostly for eligibility calculation and some UCs also use the cap for evaluation, but Berkeley, UCLA, and possibly UCSD use fully weighted GPA for evaluation.

@didvmaster, ALL a-g courses, regardless of whether they are required, recommended, or extra, should be counted for your GPA calculation (the ones take from the summer after 9th to the summer after 11th).
