I’m very familiar with how the UCs calculate GPA: 10-11 grade courses that qualify as a-g, 1 extra point for each semester of honors/AP classes but a max of 8 points. If I’m not mistaken, UCLA and UCB don’t follow the 8 point max and do not cap the GPA at 4.5 like other schools do, and their max is 5.0 So my question is referring strictly to the other UC’s.
I haven’t started junior year yet, and I’m not saying I will get all A’s, but I’m trying to calculate the highest possible GPA for myself.
From 10-11 grade, I will have a total of 12 points from Honors/AP classes (coming from a total of 4 APs and 2 Honors over these 2 years). Both years, all 4 semesters, 5 of my 6 classes are a-g, making for a total of 20 courses. If I were to earn all A’s, my uncapped GPA is 4.6 (if my calculations are wrong, let me know). However, when I recalculate with 8 extra points instead of 12, my capped GPA becomes 4.4. When calculating UC GPA, would I calculate using all 12 honors points, and round the 4.6 to a 4.5? Or do I have to calculate using only 8 points and record my capped GPA as 4.4, even though that’s less than the max (4.5) when my uncapped GPA is higher?
Use the Roger Hub Calculator. You can input all the information including the # of honors points. It will give your UW UC GPA, capped/weighted UC GPA (8 honors points) and Fully weighted UC GPA.
