UC GPA- Purpose for admissions?

In the "Must-Read: Berkeley Admissions" thread someone posted that

"Section A: The UC gpa is used solely for admissions eligibility. The app reader will see both your UC gpa (capped @ 8 semesters) AND your uncapped, weighted gpa, in context of your high school. Strength of senior schedule is also a key criteria for admissions. Keep those UC_honors and AP courses on the schedule."

So does this mean that Cal Adcoms do in fact use your overall, weighted high school GPA when deciding admits? I was always under the impression that only UC GPA was used when admitting students. So I suppose that means 9th grade indirectly matters too? ...Since obviously all your years are included in your overall GPA. What about overall, unweighted GPA?

I already asked this question in the aforementioned thread, but figured I'd get more responses if I just posted the question.

Thanks in advance!
