UC GPA Question

Are UC admissions based on your UC GPA or standard?

UC GPA, that's why they have it.

:) good

btw do you recieve extra points for honors/AP classes you do in 12th grade

12th grades courses aren't counted in your UC GPA, only 11th and 10th grade courses. However, don't let your unweighted GPA drop below a 3.0 or your admission could get rescinded. Once you're accepted your 12th grade courses are evaluated in your UC GPA once more to make sure that your unweighted GPA did not drop. Or else your admission gets rescinded. Don't get any Ds or Fs your senior year either.

The advice I just gave you is supposed to be official, but I know two people who have not had their admission to UCSD and UCSB rescinded because of the Fail the got the first semester of their senior year in Calculus.

which honors courses don't count in the UC GPA? I have taken 11 honors courses in sophomore/junior years, and I am just wondering, I heard some don't count...I've taken:

H. Geometry
H. Algebra II
H. Chemistry
H. Physics
H. 10 English
H. 11 English
AP English Language
H. Spanish IV
H. Spanish V
H. Spanish VI
H. Precalculus

Which of these--if any--does not count...hopefully 3 or fewer?

Golden Bear wins with brevity.

jyankee tell me the exact name of your school and i can tell you which ones count

I'm out of state...so I don't know if you can find it...

but I'm in Ohio

Whitmer Senior High School

I think, Chem, Physics, and the Spanish. But I'm not 100 percent

Lol so they only take english and math? And history, maybe...that sucks

It's the other way around. They don't care about Honors English or Honors History. I don't think they care about Honors math courses either. But Honors science courses yes. I think only those count.

sorry i cant find OOS :[

AP IB courses count, right? I'm from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado? any takers?

Academic, UC-approved 'a-g' courses only for UC gpa. Typically, Frosh-Soph courses don't count for a bonus point. However, all AP/IB courses count for the bonus point, regarless of when taken. Classes taken at a local college also count if they are an AP equivalent.

Jyankees: Geom, Eng 10, and AlgII don't count (since they are required for admissions). Third year of Span does not count, but fourth year does (is Span VI post AP?). Chem and Physics might count if they have prereqs; otherwise, not usually.

Don't forget that, for admission purposes, the UC gpa is capped at 8 semester's worth of bonus points.

Chem and Physics don't really have prereqs...and we don't have AP spanish...4, 5, and 6 are just honors

So that's 4 year-long classes?

Yes, 4 Year Long Classes.

:pjust thought i'd do that

bluebayou, what do you mean by all AP/IB courses count regardless when taken?

AB/IB courses will be weighted. Honor classes that are "BS" won't count, which tend to be those classes where they also have an AP course as an option or don't have a regular class for an option.

the UC website implies that courses taken during Frosh or Soph year typically dont' count for the bonus point, but AP courses will count if taken Soph year, as dpes Honors Precalc.
