UC GPA... why?

What exactly is the point of a UC GPA? Do they calculate it or do I have to, because I don't think it asks for it anywhere on the application? I'm a little confused as to the reason people are stating their UC GPAs when there's no real point to them. Is it just used for the minimum GPA requirement for the UC's? Thanks.

UC GPA is used as a way of creating a more standardized GPA that can be used in the selection process. You enter your grades on the application and all the a-g category courses you took then the application system converts it for you. As examples, it ignores grades in gym, religion and other classes that are not part of the a-g categories. It ignores + and - grades. It adjusts to a 4.0 scale. It caps weighting for AP classes.

The reason many state it is that they are comparing the UC GPA to the stats of past admittees and using it for 'chances'.

I'm pretty sure it's also only your Sophomore/Junior year grades.. right?

Right, plus any summer classes taken before the start of your senior year are included in the UC GPA.
