The CSU page on the subject is easier to understand (same calculation, except that UC does not include 12th grade course grades, which CSU would only see for those applying for a non-fall term):
[CSUMentor - Plan for College - High School Students - GPA Calculator](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU)

The UC pages are here:
[University of California - Honors courses](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/q-and-a/honors/index.html)

Here’s an older [thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/416175-how-calculate-uc-gpa.html) on calculating UC gpa. Note bluebayou’s posts.

The only thing I would add is lower grades don’t receive that stepped up point – I don’t know if it’s C’s, but certainly D’s. But since you’re applying to UC, I don’t think we’d have to worry about low grades.

If you’re sure you’ve taken the full amt., just add eight to your total uw grade points, a-g.

Another thing: UC gpa is generally only important for qualification standards, and eyeballing it will generally show whether you qualified minimally. UC gpa has no relevance to UCLA and Cal admissions.

An honors course with a C or higher grade gets an extra grade point (up to a maximum of 8 extra grade points).

Note that not all courses labeled as “honors” by high schools count as honors for UC GPA. See [University of California Doorways Home](http://www.ucop.edu/doorways) to check the courses at California high schools.

That’s the point, which courses can be stepped. But hopefully OP took a rigorous load from 10-11th.

And again, if OP told us his/her 10-11th, a-g were, on an uw and w scale, typically we could tell if he/she qualified, without having to calculate. If still questionable, we’d ask scores and do the calculation.
