How do you calculate the "UC GPA" I hear everyone talking about it, and apparently its what the UC schools go by. I'm an out of stater, but I'd really love to get into UCLA if possible. I go to a school where they don't weight scores because it is already exclusive, you have to apply to get in, but all my classes are considered honors classes. I have a 95 GPA here. What does that equal in UC scale?

weighted sophomore and junior year gpa in UC approved a-g courses.

You can find details on the UC Pathways website, but in a nutshell....a-g requirements are minimum : 2 yrs history/social science, 4 yrs English, 3 yrs
Math, 2 yrs lab scince 2 yrs foreign language, 1 yr visual/performing art , 1 yr college prep elective ( of course they prefer you to have more than the minimum in the a-g requirements ). You can only weight 4 yrs ( or 8 semesters) worth of courses for UC approved AP or honors level classes taken in the last 3 yrs of high school.
Because of the limited weighting, you may have lower GPA than if you attend a high school where they weight all the honors and AP classes.
Still even though they don't count all your AP/honors classes for weighting, they DO want to see them on your record.

FYI: UCLA Fall 2003 Freshman Admission Profile : GPA 4.09, SAT I 1333
( Of course, if you are applying to something like engineering the stats are even higher, I believe). The majority of student took 15 or more honors/AP classes.

How do they weight it is what I'm asking? If I took maybe my 8 UC approved classes that are considered honors and I have a 94 average in them, what would it be then?

The weights are based on grade points...5 for an A ;4 for a B, etc. for each semester. But remember for UC , you can only weight 8 semester grades ( so , 4 of your 8 UC appproved honors courses, as long as they were taken in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. You will need to convert the % scores to grade points

So if I had say 94 in each class (which I do, give or take 1 point) that is an A in each class which is a 5 weighted, and I have 6 UC approved classes a year, so over soph and junior year, that would be 12 total classes, and 4 of them may be weighted? So it would be (5.0x4=20) + (8x4.0=32) so 52/12 gives me a UC GPA of 4.33? Correct? So basically if you have straight a's and take all honors level classes, your GPA will definitely be a 4.33 (over soph and junior year, I didn't factor in senior year), or am I not following?

Thanks for the help!
