Hi, I am an out of state applicant applying to UC Berkeley this year. I was wondering if anyone could possibly calculate my UC GPA for me? I saw how to do it online but I am just slightly confused…
9th grade summer: Personal Finance/Economics (A)
10th grade: 1 AP course (A) & 6 regular courses (all A)
11th grade: 3 AP courses (all A) & 4 regular courses (all A)
With this GPA and SAT score (2300) do I have any chance of getting into UC Berkeley? I am a girl applying as chemical engineering!
Do you meet the A-G requirements? (especially F? One year of graded visual/performing arts).

You need to list your actual courses because some may not be acceptable for the UC’s.
**Can you afford the UC’s? **
$55K per year with limited to no financial aid.
And . . . . as a prospective CE major with an SAT of 2300, how can you NOT figure out how to calculate your GPA?

PS: FYI, California has lots of females applying in the STEM disciplines including CE.
Yes I meet all the requirements and like I said (maybe if you bothered to read the post) I did calculate but I wanted to confirm with someone who has attended high schools in CA. If you don’t really have an answer to whatever I was asking why don’t you not answer at all? Thank you.
Ouch!
Sorry, I don’t read minds just posts.
I asked about the F requirement because most OOS don’t include and calculate the visual and performing arts requirement. This coursework is required for California high school students, but not for OOS. It has to be included in the calculations.
Your attitude will not serve you well in your attempts to get admitted to California schools.
I didn’t mean to come off as sounding like that and I understand what you mean.
Sorry if it sounded too rude but your first comment made me slightly ticked off. Thanks anyways.
How many of the a-g courses do you have Sophomore and Junior year?
Are you on semester, where you have 2 grades for each year long course? Is your summer class 2 grades on 1 grade for the course?
If you would rather not post your grades, you can PM me to confirm you GPA. Are your 4 AP classes, year long classes? If so, then you get the maximum honors points of 8.
How many AP classes are offered at your HS and how many are you taking Senior year?
T.T thank you for these wonderful questions! I would like to PM you!
My apologies, I can be harsh.
List your coursework. The UC’s will give credit for AP’s but not Honors courses for OOS applicants.
The advantage in admission is given to in-state students since the parents are paying through state taxes for the school. That’s why you will be billed at full costs, for all four years-most students don’t expect that.
Berkeley is a reach for everyone. The STEM majors are impacted. You need to visit the campus. Given that it is a very competitive, stressful environment, if you really hope to attend, you have to visit.
(Dd2 took a while to get accustomed to the local vibe; chose not to go. Ds1 did not like it at all, and didn’t want to go there.)
Your SAT is in range with admitted students, but you can’t be chanced without EC’s.
Be aware that with that SAT, you could get full funding at other schools.
thank you so much. I am sorry again for my rude reply previously. Your reply was a great help!
With that SAT, apply to Caltech. Your GPA is probably within range.
The advantage that you have for Caltech is in being female at that school, and majoring in CE. It is still largely a male campus. The UC’s don’t have that advantage anymore. (Other California privates like Harvey Mudd and Pomona are well known in California, but not so in other states)
Caltech is in Southern California, but is not as large as Berkeley (nor cold/rainy) and is a very small campus.
They do provide need-based funding (merit funding is very minimal since everyone has perfect scores/grades), which makes it affordable to most families.
