How much does it really matter in UC Berkeley admissions? And how bout other UC's?

GPA matters to Berkeley, you need at least a 4.2 out of HS. As far as the othe UC's UCLA is about the same as Berkeley where in UCSD you need about a 4.0.

Is that a joke? ^

Your entire application is accounted for. GPA is a significant part of it, but there is no upper tier cutoff.

sorry but i go to berkeley and i dont know anyone (besides sports players) who got in with lower than a 4.2. Yah your EC's are important and so are your essays but your GPA is definetly the most important. Sorry...

Wow. There is no cutoff. I can't believe you would even say that.

my UC GPA = 3.95, not an athlete, and I was admitted to eecs.

Lomeg knows everyone in Berkeley so....

To OP: GPA matters a lot. I got in with 3.8 UC GPA (no special stuff). Don't expect another miracle like that in the next few years.

"UC GPA" refers to the GPA you get at Berkeley.

all these GPAs you guys are saying you had, are these UC GPAs, or Weighted GPA?

go to community college and then transfer. so much easier but heck, what do i know, im still at a community college applying to UCB and UCLA for fall 2007

smith...great idea. I honestly wish I had transferred rather than came as a freshman. Then my undergrad GPA wouldn't be so screwed for graduate admissions.

Anyway, the GPA cut off is about 3.9/4.0 unweighted for UCLA and Berkeley out of high school, so i agree with the previous posters.

My son was admitted and offered an interview for Regents/Chancellors with a 3.8 weighted GPA out of high school. (He choose Caltech over UCB so he didn't do the interview). UC knows that an A at one high school is not the same as an A at another high school. He attends a very rigours high schol. Though I'm sure it helped that in his senior year he was also taking classes at UCB through concurrent enrollment.

The UCGPA we are discussing in this thread alludes to your high school GPA after it has been weighted by the UC weighting system.

No it's not. Didn't we say that there's no cutoff? There are plenty of people with lower than 3.9 uw gpa who get in. (actually I think the average uw GPA is around a 3.8)

I don't think gpa is the main factor since so many people have uw gpa's of 3.8s and above.

ok, wouldn't u rather encourage this person to do better GPAwise?

Honestly, a 3.9+ in high school isn't that hard to achieve and aiming higher is always better considering the UCs seem to consider GPA first in their evaluations process
