When you calculate UC GPA, is an A a 93-100 or 90-100 or whatever the school decides an A is? Also, is it true that they only look at soph and freshman years? I hope that’s the case, as I only have one B in the last two years (a 92 from a teacher I didn’t really get along with), but three or four freshman year.

edit: also, do they factor in vocational classes? My guidance councellor for whatever reason convinced me to take eletrical trades my sophomore year (I was new to the school and didn’t really know what to take).

UC excludes Frosh grades and non-UC required courses like PE and health; they only look at Soph and Junior years (10th and 11th grades). Don't forget honors points for UC-approved honors courses (if your a Cal resident). But, I'm not sure about converting %'s to grades.

Are honors courses for out-of-staters handled in a similar way, or do they just look at the whole transcript in that case instead of the GPA? Also, how much of a bonus is factored in for honors/AP classes? Thanks!

If you go to the University of California central website, they give a link where all the classes in your school (providing it's in ca) that are counted in your gpa will be listed. The starred ones will stand for those given an extra point. They will award up to 8 semesters of AP or honors courses an extra gpa point, but not all honors - just the ones they consider grade level appropriate. (For instance Algebra II honors doesn't get any extra points as it's considered a frosh level class, I guess). It's a pretty interesting site - if you're serious about the UCs, there's a lot to be learned there, and you will be able to figure out your own recalculated UC gpa, which they base entirely on your soph and junior grades.

Heh, thanks. My ECs are sorely lacking compared to most people on CC, but then again I really didn't know what I was interested in until last fall. I really didn't like the school I went to from grades 7-9, and was sort of disoriented in 10th grade because it took me a while to adapt. Hopefully they'll consider that, although I can't make excuses for my lack of doing stuff. :P
