UC Honors and Scholarship Info?

Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has gotten the notification for UC honors or if anyone knows who when the notification come out? Also anything about Scholarships?

My daughter received the e-mail notifying her re: Honors on 1/22; letter with more details arrived about a week ago. If you haven’t heard anything, you might want to call the UHP coordinator in the admissions department. It was very competitive this year; they said they only accepted 5% of the estimated freshman class of 6300; in the past they took 7-10%. Also, according to admissions staff, Cincinnatus scholarship info won’t be available until late Feb. at the earliest, but likely not until mid-March. Some international students and other specialty scholarships (NMF) have been notified already. Good luck!

BubbleGirl90, congrats to your daughter on her invitation to the UC Honors program! My daughter received her invitation the same day. Are you planning to visit UC for the Honors program brunch on March 4th? UC DAAP is our daughter’s top school choice by far, so we’ll be there. Do you know if it possible to speak with the Financial Aid office while there for the Honors brunch? Now that our daughter wants to go to an out-of-state school, when we’ve been planning all along for a state school in Michigan, financial aid and scholarships are at the top of our concerns.

@DAAPDad, congrats to your daughter too! I understand the expense concern; Michigan was my daughter’s top pick but the OOS tuition is out of reach for us. I believe there is a schedule posted for the 3/4 event (we will be attending also), but it would probably be best to reach out to FA sooner. We were told that notification of eligibility for scholarships would be done in the next few weeks, with specific award amounts sent by mid-March. I am hopeful that the invite to Honors is a positive sign for both girls that they will qualify for merit aid!

something to think about for UC DAAP…when on co-op you only pay $450 to reserve spot for the next semester of school, plus while on co-op the student gets paid. our daughter is a 3rd year ID student and we live out of state. no scholarships given to her. the most expensive year was freshman year when the student is required to live on campus and also have a meal plan. after her first year she moved off campus and it has been a lot cheaper then room and board on campus. when on co-op her paychecks paid for her room and board while living out of state and she had money left over which she uses to pay her grocery bill when on semesters back at school. good luck to you all.

let me clarify. when on co-op you do not pay full tuition for that semester you pay $450 for that semester.

Just a note that I just got off the phone with the Cincinnati financial aid office and they indicated that scholarship information will be sent in the next 5 business days and may be out as early as today or tomorrow. They indicated that the notifications will be sent via email and will contain a link to Catalyst with the details.

Good luck everyone!

fatherofsam, my daughter received her notification last night. Unfortunately, she was underwhelmed, (especially considering she was admitted to UHP and has other full tuition merit offers) but we are hoping for a possible increase after other students decline their offers. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the info @BubbleGirl90. Do you mind sharing your D’s merit award? We are OOS so we need more than the $3K they will provide in order to really consider Cinci and DAAP.

We are in-state, so total cost is around 24K for next year. She was only offered $3500. In contrast, she was offered full tuition at a more selective/higher academic quality (for her major - which is not DAAP) public university, with a guarantee that total cost will stay the same for 4 years. She loves UC and it was her first choice, but not likely she will go there now. Hope you will get the funds you need to make it work; I’ve heard DAAP is fantastic.

To everyone anxiously awaiting their aid offers - If you check Catalyst, the scholarship information might be up there… We have not yet received any official notification (email or letter), but this morning the site listed my daughter’s merit aid offer (under Finances)…

Thanks for sharing @BubbleGirl90. I suspect my D will be in a similar boat. We will take a look at the the portal when we both get home later tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My D really prefers an integrated design/engineering program. So, DAAP may not be the best fit in the end for that reason as well. It is a GREAT design school though…

My daughter checked Catalyst today and found she’s been awarded a $3000 Cincinnatus scholarship. She’s been invited to join the honors program, so we were actually hoping she’d be receiving a little more, closer to the $6,000 max. With the national outreach award (for students coming from Michigan and a few other states) of $6,000, total scholarships are $9,000, cutting the OOS tuition bill down to ~$17k. Total jumps to $28k w/R&B and $30k+ w/other misc expenses. DAAP had better be worth it!

@BubbleGirl90 is the other school Miami OH by any chance? I’m really perplexed how Miami can offer more money than UC. Both state schools. The OOS tuition at Miami OH is much higher than UC but the out of pocket would still be lower for my S there most likely. No word on Cincinnatus for him yet (engineering). I know that co-op dollars help, but in theory he could co-op at Miami too, it’s just not required and probably a bit challenging to structure it.

My daughter just received her scholarship notification this morning for DAAP Industrial Design. $3500 Cincinnatus + $3K OOS bump.

She also received a $2K provost scholarship which I believe is associated with the honors program. From what I’ve read elsewhere I think that is a one-time scholarship for freshman year only, though that wasn’t stated on the portal. Can anyone confirm this is one-year only?

@DAAPDad, we were also hoping for the $6K Cincinnatus…

Hello! Congrats to everyone on their great scholarships!

I have a question though, how would I create a catalyst account? I got sent a link to it but am not sure how to create an account because I don’t remember being given information on creating a password?

Thanks for the help!

Please ignore my post, I got it. Thanks!

@RocketsandMoons8 how did you get it to work? I’m having the same issue!

@PepeThePenn I called the help desk and they help set up a temporary password that you would use to create a new password for yourself. Good Luck!

Just sending a quick note that the $2K provost scholarship is a one-time scholarship for the honors college ($1K each of the first 2 semesters).

While we are grateful for the aid, we were hoping for a bit more, as I’m sure most were. Will be a tough decision.
