UC Irvine Admission

I'm worried about my admission into UC Irvine.
I have about 3.6 gpa and 1590 for my SAT score. I'm involved in many community service clubs and I have leadership also. I'm not top student or anything, but I'm not exactly confident. I was wondering if I could get in..

Also.. this year, senior year has been rough.. UCs state that if a student receives a D their senior year, it could waive their acceptance, I'm worried about if I get rejected because I received a D in Calculus. It's been difficult for me to keep up with Calculus, but I received all A's except a D in Calculus.. I'm worried.

Is your SAT score on the 2400 or 1600 scale? If it’s 2400, then that is an really low score. I don’t know how great your extracurriculars are or how well you wrote your essays, but I’d say you’re going to have a tough time recovering from that score. I’m not trying to be rude, I just want to be honest.

Thanks for the honesty because I know that my friends are just saying things to keep me hopeful, but I want to be on the safe side. I don’t want to jump in too quick and rely on just one school. It’s on the 2400 score. I’m not exactly sure about my admissions, but I’m worried. I’m just hoping to get in, I’d be extremely thankful!

Well luckily, UCI is one of the less competitive schools in the UC system. That being said, you still have to be a pretty good student to be accepted. If you have low SAT scores and some bad grades on your transcripts, I would definitely start thinking about where else you may want to go. You could always go to another school or a community college and transfer to UCI as a junior, if you really wanted to go there.

Of course. I’ve got back ups, but I’d be extremely happy if I got in. I’m hoping that I get in, if not I can plan to go a community and transfer.

im not sure how outstanding your essay is but the gpa is a bit low. for sat, ive been hearing news from radio and my eng teacher saying that SAT scores starting from this year arent goin to be as a competitve component anymore. since they said its an unfair way to judge one’s knowledge. so gpa/essay/EC are more important now.
dont let your SAT discourage you.
btw, the D can waive ur chance especially if ur SAT/gpa arent like superhigh. sry. but hope for the best!

^^ It seems like SATs are the most fair way to judge one’s knowledge? GPAs can differ depending on the high school, essays depending on the topic, ECs depending on the number of opportunities… SATs are the same for everyone, so it seems like that would be the most fair way to judge one person from another? Just my opinion.

^^ I sort of agree with you on how SAT is a fair way to determine people’s knowledge. However, many wealthy people can just get tutors to prep them on SAT or go to SAT classes that costs thousands of dollars for them to get a higher grade. So, it’s actually really unfair for the people who can’t afford classes.
