Hello people! I've been checking around UCI's computer science departments and degrees they offer. I know the regular CS needs some science classes but ICS doesn't. My question is, what is the real difference between the two? Advantages, disadvantages? Easier, harder? Job prospects? Thanks.

Bumping this thread.

anybody have input on this?

At this point, it doesn’t really matter which you pick. You could even just be undecided in the school of ICS. You’re going to be doing basically the same classes in your first year or so (classes like ics 21, 22, 23, 51, 52, 6b, 6d, etc.)

From career fairs I’ve attended, I can say that it doesn’t really seem to matter. The actual curriculum for the two majors is very close, so it’s not like you’ll be learning different skills and concepts in each. You’re right that CS requires you take a few science courses in either chem, bio or physics. On the other hand, ICS requires more math, i believe.

I’m not sure if it matters for grad school but, if i had to guess, it probably doesn’t.
