UC Irvine Fall 2021 Transfer Thread

Hey I did get accepted as a bio major, and I also did the undergrad barcoding research at UCR last november! We prob did it together  Anyway, I’m sorry you didn’t get in, you have a great GPA. Did you finish the 2 sems of ochem?

I know! So excited! Thank you!

From Ms. Sun’s website:
Examples of new and compelling information may include extraordinary hardship or exceptional talent. You can discuss these things in your appeal as reasons for the UCs to reconsider you. Make sure you describe exactly how the exceptional talent qualifies you for UC admissions or how the hardship prevented you from performing to your full academic potential. The objective of your appeal should be why you are an excellent candidate for the UCs and how you expect to excel in college (and what resources at the UCs you intend to utilize in order to succeed). Avoid badmouthing anyone or any institutions (high school, other colleges, etc.) and do NOT brag about the other colleges that have made admission offers (UCs generally encourage students to take the offers they already received and skip the appeal). Be concise and don’t exaggerate or try to be dramatic. Follow through with a backup plan in case the decision is not reversed.

I didn’t. COVID really messed up my scheduling and I’m only able to take one semester of ochem. Do you think that is the reason ? Also what was your gpa is you don’t mind me asking.

we’re kind of in the same boat. I probably got rejected because of my gpa and not finishing my last semester of ochem. For some reason I didn’t know that was a pre req 🥲

What was your GPA?

3.5

I have a 4.0 but I would guess that second sem of ochem is the reason unfortunately. It says here on the website that it’s one of the required classes so I would guess that’s the reason

Well I’m screwed if the other uc’s have this as a requirement. Congrats though!

Nah don’t worry about it, i’m pretty sure ucla only requires the first semester and i don’t think ucsd requires either. But thank you!!

Yeah UCLA only requires one semester of ochem!

Crazy. 3.6-3.65ish here and got WL. But tbh, I have some very strong work experiences that the vast majority of college students do not, and my essays were top-notch. I think it probably fell down to that if your GPA was so strong. It’s lowkey a shame I got a C in calc last summer. Probably could’ve made the cut for UCLA or Berkeley if I didn’t, but oh well.

Ccc student, didn’t finish all major prereq, 60units done, igetc√ by the end of spring 2021.
4.0 gpa accepted!!! Major for uci: urban studies
Got accepted yesterday and just got an email from uci saying welcome to uci. I thought it’d be more like check your portal though. Is it cuz I checked my portal before they sent me an email?

I didn’t apply to ucla because I thought my gpa was too low well I still think it’s too low :upside_down_face:

Congrats!

Did you apply under Psych BA or Psych BS?

I’m also a prospective Cog Sci major, tagged in as Psych BA, and hoping to do Computational Cog Sci!

Are you doing your second of the two additional approved course for the major this semester? I’ve only done one - but still hoping to switch into Cog Sci ASAP!

Feel free to connect on instagram, I’d love to get to know other Cog Sci majors! @nadiabcroteau

Accepted! Business Admin, 4.0

I did TAG and was rejected yesterday. No idea why and now I’m trying to figure out how to appeal. Does anyone know how you find out why they rejected a TAG?

Hey!

I applied under Psych BA. I’m also only doing 1 additional course, symbolic logic. Didn’t want to take multivariable calculus lol.

Hmm I’m not sure if they’d tell you from their office, but I’m sure if you carefully analyze your TAG and/or go over it with a counselor and your transfer center at your CC, you’ll be able to find the mistake IF there is one. If there isn’t then, yay you have a strong chance to appeal! TAG appeals I’ve heard are ones that are accepted often.
