UC Irvine has been my dream school for about a year or so now. Everything about the school makes me smile with joy and excitement. However, I did not do so fantastic 9th-10th grade, with GPA's ranging from 3.0 to 3.5, it was all over the place. My cumulative GPA (weighted) ended with a 3.1 10th grade. I am currently in 11th grade and I have gotten consecutive 3.70s and 3.75s all year and have raised my cumulative weighted GPA to a 3.6.

I do have some extracurricular but nothing extraordinary like President of a club or anything of the sort. I've been an active member as a photographer of EGAAS (non-profit organization that raises money for Aquatic sports teams that are planning to be cut district wide next year), School Yearbook Photographer, and Varsity Swim Team for 3 years (including next year's season).

I have not taken the official SAT yet but will do so next month. I am currently enrolled in a SAT class and have taken, to date, 3 proctored PSAT's (with essays) and scored a 1380,1480, and most recently, a 1660. I am not sure how this translates to the official SAT but best of wishes to me!

What do you think fellas, do I have a shot?

Even though your SAT score is below the average of admitted students, I wouldn’t worry much about it. I know plenty of students who got in within the 1300-1400 range. However, I’m pretty worried about your GPA. Even though the people I know who got in with relatively low SAT scores, they had a really high GPA (weighted) such as a 4.0 or higher. Also, you should probably be involved in more extracurriculars during the summer just in case if that’s not enough. When it’s time to start your UC app, make sure that your personal statements show that you are a well-rounded student! They don’t want to see one side of you. I know one student who is really smart, but I think it was her essays that got her rejected from Irvine. She pretty much talked about how open she is to other cultures for BOTH essays.

If you follow these steps, you will probably get admitted to UCI next year…like me :)

Bump for an actual SAT score. I had scored a bit lower than I had hoped but better than my PSATs at least! 1750. 550 in CR/Math and 650 in Writing, which puts me in the 90th percentile for whatever it’s worth =/

banhcuon-you seem like me! i love uc irvine and my score is 1750…I do way better in writing, too! but i’m out of state!
