Hey I currently go to UCI. Congrats to everyone who’s been accepted! I’m a 1st year here and also in the Campuswide Honors Program so if any of you were admitted to that I could maybe answer some questions. I’ll try to answer any questions that any of you have. Also, in the individual colleges section there is a thread for UCI, so check that out too. Good luck with all those decisions coming in!

how is it over there? concerning weather, campus atmosphere, and education?

also is it hard to get into their honors program?

How is the diversity? I hear that UCI is Asian Central. How about the party scene, is there stuff to do around or off campus? And how necessary is it to have a car?

i live 5 min. from UCI...it's in China...

The weather for the most part is pretty nice. Although this year there's been a bit of rain but everyone from around here says that it's not normally like that.

There are a lot of Asians on campus. Somewhere around 50% maybe slightly more. I'm as white as they come though and I don't feel uncomfortable or something.

Personally I am not a partier but there are parties around especially in Newport which is right next to UCI, in fact part of UCI is in Newport actually. Anyway, if partying is your thing you can find it although it won't jump out at you as much as some other schools. Right next to campus there are a buncha restaurants and an Albertsons and stuff. There's a bowling alley and several theatres a short drive away. Having a car would definitely be a plus. I don't have one but you just gotta meet people who do and stuff. The beach is pretty close (5 miles away) which is nice.

I think the education is pretty good. The honors program I think has something like the top 3% of the school so it's pretty competitive to get in. For campus atmosphere, a lot of people go home on the weekend, but there are a bunch of NorCal (like me) and some SoCal people that stick around too, so there are always people around. It's all about the people you meet, that's what's going to make college fun.

In the UCI thread there is more imformation on campus life and the school in general from my perspective and also Alicantekid's, who is a UCI Alum.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted, and good luck to those still waiting to hear a decision.
