UC Irvine or Cal Poly SLO?

I'm having a hard time choosing between UC Irvine and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I got into UCI as a business econ major and into Cal Poly as an economics major.

I've visited both schools and really liked each one. I took a tour of the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly and was really impressed. It's too bad UCI doesn't have a dedicated school of business. Both campuses were great, although Cal Poly felt a little bit more like a college because it was more lively.

Anyway, I know employers like hiring Cal Poly grads because of the whole learn by doing thing. I'm sure UC Irvine grads can get jobs just as easily as Cal Poly grads too though.

I'm pretty sure I want to go into business. Hopefully I can handle the math classes, otherwise I'll be changing majors. That's the thing about UCI, if I do change majors they have better programs than Cal Poly in almost everything else. Plus Irvine is in a business district so I'd imagine a number of businesses recruit out of there. I'm interning at a hedge fund near UCI right now and was told I can continue with my internship if I decide to go to UC Irvine. Same thing with my job, there's another Bristol Farms about 5 minutes away from UCI that I could transfer to.

After college I might want to go to law school or go straight into the workforce and maybe get an MBA a few years down the line. Given what I want to do, what do you guys think would be my best choice in this situation? Thanks.

Bumpppp, I'm Wondering The Same.

I made my decision....UC Irvine!

may i ask, based on what?

thanks

It came down to UCI being close to home and the location is unbeatable (Newport Beach, San Diego and LA an hour away). I can keep the internship I have through college if I want since the office is like 10 minutes from UCI. I did the Stay Over Program thing and spent the night there last week and it was a lot of fun. Everyone at my school particularly looks down on UCI and there's a stereotype that its no fun and its just a bunch of nerdy asians. Not true. Right now I want to go into business, but I'm not 100% sure. If I do switch majors UCI's programs are significantly better than Cal Polys.

I love the campus, there's a ton to do right around it and I can come home easily if i want to. Finally, prestige and rankings also came into play as I made my decision. Overall, I'm pleased with my decision, we'll see if it was the right one come september.

so i guess i'm going to have to make the same decision. is UCI's name really that much more prestigious than cal poly? i know that cal poly's business admin program ranks better than UCI's semi-new biz econ program. i know that i'll have more fun at uci than at calpoly b/c of friends but i'm trying to take other things in consideration.

Within CA I assume that Cal Poly's name is superior to UCIs.
