UC Irvine (Undeclared) vs. Purdue University (Mech. Engr. Tech)

I got accepted into followings:

UC Irvine - Undecided/Undeclared
Purdue University - Mechanical Engineering Technology
UC Riverside - Mechanical Engineering
University of Illinois, Chicago - Mechanical Engineering

I think I am going to go to either UC Irvine or Purdue University.
Which one do you think better? Area of Interest is engineering.

SAT 1780 // GPA 3.56 // IB PG 38 // TOEFL 89

why mechanical engineering “technology” at Purdue, and not Mechanical Engineering? Seems like you should have a goal in mind, before selecting a college

They are both good schools and Purdue is better known in engineering. But there are other considerations - I am assuming California is in-state for you? What’s the tuition difference do to your family’s budget? How does that impact your chances for grad school? Also, how do you feel about living in West Lafayette? My daughter is facing a similar choice - we are in Southern California and she’s been accepted into Purdue for ME as well as other schools, but all of her school choices were in the Northeast or Midwest. If she wasn’t absolutely bound and determined to go to school where it snows I would have discouraged her from applying anywhere so cold and far away. Irvine and Purdue will provide very different undergraduate experiences and I think you really need to think about how you would fit in each place.

You need to investigate how difficult it is to switch into your desired major at each school (mechanical engineering technology is not the same as mechanical engineering).

http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_Engr.html</a> indicates that UCI requires a 2.0 GPA overall and 2.5 GPA in math and physics to change into mechanical engineering.

<a href=“School of Engineering Education - Purdue University”>School of Engineering Education - Purdue University; indicates that Purdue requires a 3.2 GPA overall and in courses for the major to be automatically admitted to mechanical engineering; otherwise you need to enter a competitive admissions process. You need to change into the first year engineering program before then as well.

If you are in mechanical engineering at UCR and UIC, then you just need to remain in good academic standing.

Mechanical Engineering at UCR or UIC beats premajor at UCI which itself beats Engineering Technology * at Purdue. In my opinion UCR > UIC but ymmv.
