Hey
I’m currently debating between UC Irvine and Cal Poly. I was accepted as an English major at Cal Poly and a Political Science major at UCI. Which school would be better for me? Thanks!
the better one for you is the one where you prefer the academic program, type of students enrolled, setting (where you’ll live, etc), choice of majors, etc.
Do you want to major in English or political science? Have you checked whether it is difficult to change to the other major at each school? How do costs compare?
@mikemac That’s the problem. I have no idea which setting would fit me more.
@ucbalumnus I want to major in poli sci but I didn’t see that on Cal Poly’s application. Turns out, they have a poli sci program. UC Irvine would fit me better.
Forbes just ranked UCI as #4 in list of best value colleges. Both are great schools.
@CopperlineX2 yeah fortunately. I’m just really stuck between the two
https://politicalscience.calpoly.edu/students/change-of-major describes what you need to do to change to political science if you attend CPSLO.
If you prefer political science, then it would be better to be assured of your major at UCI if you have direct admission to political science there. Even if you do not have direct admission, it looks easier to get into the political science major at UCI: http://changeofmajor.uci.edu/school-of-social-sciences/#anthro .
@mrcookieeater44 are you able to tour both campuses? I highly recommend it. You have been accepted to two really good universities. I’m sure you are the envy of many high school seniors that would love to make a decision like yours. I agree with @ucbalumnus gotta do your research on switching majors, making sure they’re not impacted. Again, try touring, I think you’ll be surprised when one of the campuses feel like “the one.” If you can’t tour, watch all the youbtube tour videos that you can!
