UC Irvine vs. Purdue University

Following is a list of universities I got into:

UC Irvine - Undecided/Undeclared
UC Riverside - Mechanical Engineering
University of Illinois, Chicago - Mechanical Engineering
Purdue University - Mechanical Engineering Technology

I chose UCI and Purdue over rest two because of following reasons:

UCI - Good environment, Undecided major (I can explore courses and choose actual major later on), Potency (ranked at 7th under 50yrs school), high retention rate.
Purdue U - renowned for engineering. relatively cheaper tuition.

I don't even know if these reasons are correct or not since im not afford to visit each school...
Could you please tell me which university would fit for me? (considering surroundings, reputation, prestige, and social life)

And also, could you please tell me which university has better employment rate for engineering?

If you are unsure of your major then Purdue is not the best choice. It is very much an engineering and technology school. Perfect if that is what you want, but not so good if you choose to switch more toward humanities or social science.

Also consider the climate in California compared to Indiana. If you hate cold weather then that could ruin Purdue for you, no matter what. Considering that you have both Irvine and Riverside on your list, it looks like you might be a Californian. If so, adapting to Purdue’s weather, and its Mid-Western culture, could be a big challenge. On the other hand, if you happen to be from the Mid-West, these things might not matter.

If you do choose to attend Purdue, I recommend transferring out of ME Technology and going with pure Mechanical Engineering.

Good Luck.

I can’t really say much to help but if you want to look at it in terms of prestige Purdue definitely wins. I live in California so Irvine is a great option for some of my friends here. But if your out-of-state the price is so much that I don’t really think it’s worth it if you got admitted to Purdue. Purdue is far more highly regarded and cheaper. You’d definitely get an amazing education there and a job as well. Of course it’s hard to consider where you want to live if you’ve never been there. I have no knowledge of the area that Purdue is in so hopefully someone else knows. But Irvine is a nice suburban city. LA is about an hour away, the beach 15 mins, and Disneyland 25 mins. I have no idea if this is helpful to you at all but it’s all the information I could provide.
