<p>Hi! This coming fall I will be applying to UC Irvine.
I am a member of the ELC program and have done Leadership for 2 years.
I am have 3.4 unweighted GPA.
I have yet to take the ACT which i will be taking in June (what score do you suggest I get to help with my chances?)
I am a california resident
and I have played 2 sports, lacrosse for 1 year and water polo for 2.
I have over 200 community service hours and volunteer an average of 4 hours a week to tutor young children.
What are my current chances of getting into UC Irvine and is there anything you would suggest I do that would increase my chances?
Thank you!</p>
<p>First question: what is your major? that is very important in determining elgibility. </p>
<p>My major is computer science! Thanks for asking.</p>
<p>Well I can offer you this <a href=“UC Irvine: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/uc-irvine-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm</a></p>
<p>But since you’re a stem major your sat/act should be higher than this. Stem majors are more selective generally. The best response will be as high as possible. </p>
<p>@jduhveed: Most UC’s focus more on your GPA vs Test Scores. Your GPA is low. You need to calculate your CSU/UC Weighted GPA to get a better idea of your chances. Here is the link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
You would need at least an ACT of 30+ to have a chance. I will give you my younger sons example whom applied for Computer Science this past Fall.
GPA UW: 3.4
GPA CSU/UC W: 3.7
Academic GPA W: 3.9
ACT: 31
10 AP classes and 2 Honors
7 years soccer and 2 years X-country
150 Hours of Volunteer and knowledge of C++ and Objective C Programming languages
He was rejected.<br>
CS is very competitive. Without your ACT and your weighted GPA, I would give you a 30% chance of acceptance as of now.
Really work on your UC assays this summer and make them outstanding. I do not know what other schools you are interested in applying, but consider for the UC’s: UCSC and UCR. I would include some Cal States such as SJSU, CSULB, CPP and maybe SDSU. Good Luck </p>
<p>Get your GPA up and maybe take a college class. UC’s look heavily at GPA. My son applied as a ChemE major and was only accepted as Undeclared with a 4.05 UC GPA and 3.7 unweighted with a 1600 SAT (all three).</p>
