I'm currently a CSU student trying to transfer to a UC. I will complete the 2 english, 1 math, and 4 science/art/behavior. But is it required for me to take a language that is not English course? I think I read this somewhere on the IGETC form.

Yeah, depending on your college, you will need to take for example, French 2, Spanish 2, Italian 2. You need a foreign language course. Now, I am not sure how it works for a CSU-UC transfer, for CC-UC you needed it for the IGETC. UC’s require a foreign language course. Just looking at LAMC IGETC it tells you that you need it.

@mayday5 I’m using my high school foreign language (span1 &span2) to satisfy IGETC. I would check to see if you can do the same. I think you need 4 semesters with a passing score of C- in the last semester.

I’m from a CSU and I think the only reason you’d need/want to take a foreign language is if the UC you want to attend requires it and you want to get ahead.

For instance, UCLA’s College of Letters and Science requires a year of foreign language as a graduation requirement so I’m going to have to take it when I get there.

Also, I know that at UCSD, Revelle college requires foreign language as a GE.

I don’t think it harms you if you don’t take it, considering you’re coming from a CSU. IGETC doesn’t apply to us, I think. I got into both of those ^ universities and I didn’t take any foreign language at SDSU.

Foreign language may not be an admission requirement, but it may still be a graduation requirement. Each campus and each department is different.
