I’ve taken five years of Latin, and while I won’t get into the gritty details, four of them are impossible for me to transfer to my transcript when I’m applying for a UC. I’m currently taking AP Latin at a California school, so that’s all well and good. I’m looking to pass with an A. If this is all that I have to physically show for my five years of language, will this satisfy my e requirement? The official guide says “equivalent to two years or four semesters, or through the second level of high school instruction of the same language other than English”, and I’m wondering if I’m right to translate this as just having two semesters high-level language on there somewhere as long as the class is legit.
I know that I can also take the AP and subject tests and pass with like a 3 or 530 to fulfill my e requirement, and I’m fairly certain that I can do this, but I also know these to be some of the hardest exams there are. If I end up barely passing them, it’d be nice to know that I have the backup of already having fulfilled my language in case I don’t want to send off these scores.
From what I’ve read, other people have tried going into a UC with just one year of say, Spanish III, but I’m not sure how the colleges responded, or if it was a problem when applying for a more selective UC. If anyone can speak from experience or a similar situation it’d be much appreciated.
