Although the UCs do not accept letters of rec…my counselor insisted on writing one for me. She felt much more of me could be explained outside of grades and test scores and the limited scope of the essays.
What are the chances that the UCs actually read it and take into account what she has said?

Unfortunately, they probably won't. But who knows? They might give it a glance. Either way, you should be happy you have someone that cares about you that much.

yep, they say pretty specifically they won't read it, don't submit it. the secretary sifting through all the apps will trash it to be fair to all applicants before it even hits the reader.

However, this counselor sounds like he'll write a great rec for your other colleges. yay : )!

Not true in the least. The UC's have enough paperwork as it is so all they want are basically grades [self-reported, they don't even see an official transcript unless you attend], essay and SAT scores. No recs at all.
