UC limit unit question?

This is my first post so sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

I attended two quarters (I would say 3 but I had to withdraw from one of the quarters, so I have all W’s there) at a UC before having to withdraw from the university due to health issues. After I withdrew from the UC I spent time getting treatment so that I would be healthy enough to return to school. As a result of not getting help before starting my time at the UC my grades suffered, and so I decided to attend a CC to hopefully boost up my GPA and attend another UC. However, I was never told of the uc unit limit until this last semester. That was partly my fault since I should’ve looked into what restrictions I may face since I’m A UC to CC to UC transfer student.

I wanted to know if it was true that I may not even be able to transfer to another UC, and that the only UC I will be able to attend is the one I withdrew from? At the UC I took the equivalent of 25 UC semester credits, and by the time I transfer out of CC I will have taken 97 CC semester units. If you’re wondering why I took so many units I was taking classes to fulfill the IGETC, honor class requirements, and my major pre-reqs. I also took classes to boost my GPA since it was low (in the 1.0s) when I had left UC, and now it’s up in the mid 3.0s.

I plan on meeting up with a counselor at my CC once winter break is over, but I’ve been stress and anxious thinking over my limited options now. Especially since I don’t really know the answer or information to my situation. So I wanted to post in this thread to at least get some sort of answer or information. I was originally going to start the transfer process this upcoming year, but if I’m ineligible to transfer to another UC I want to start looking at the options I have left.

So you have 72 lower division units at your CC and 25 from the UC? Are any units from AP credit since they do not count to the maximum 70 unit lower division cap? Did you leave/withdraw in good standing from the original UC?

Below is a link that shows each UC campus limits page 34 on my screen and it looks like you are over all the UC campuses limits. Some campuses do admit Senior standing transfers so you would need to contact each to see what are your options.

Sorry for the confusion of my post. I took 25 UC semester units + 97 CC semester units (by the time I’m finished with CC). Totaling up to 122 semester units.

Thank you so much for the information! Reading this guide helped ease my anxiety, and seeing that some UC still take high-unit juniors/seniors helps a lot. :")

It seems that you are over the limit. The CCC units will cap at 70, and then the 25 will be added on top of the 70.

90 is the limit at 5 of the UCs, with UCLA at 86.5 and Davis and I think it’s Merced and Riverside capped at 80.

You need to reach out to the UC for advice. If you have at least 5 units that are non-transferable, that would be advantageous, as it would put you right at 90. Either that or get rid of some spring courses.

Since it was under 2.0 you did not leave UC in good standing. So your options seem limited even without the unit cap issues.

I suggest you start by contacting an advisor at your former UC. It might be worth also exploring your options at the CSU system and other colleges.

@mikemac brought up a good point. I also believe that any D or F class from a UC must be retaken at a UC so, for instance, if you failed Calc and retook it at a CCC you will not get the failed UC grade removed. I’m not even sure you’d get credit for retake. This is why it’s important to work closely with advisors.
