Can I get into UCLA or UCB?
Hey there. I'm a Korean male living in Southern California. What're my chances of getting into UCLA or UCB (if I can't get into those, do you think I have a good chance at UCSD?).

Stats:
High School GPA (they add like .125 per AP semester I think): 3.87
UC GPA: 4.27
ACT composite: 32
SAT 1 score: 2020 (will they ignore this and look only consider my ACT score?)
SAT2 math: 760
SAT2 chem: 720
SAT2 spanish: 700
SAT2 bio: 680
SAT2 US history: 660
AP Chem: 4
AP World: 3
AP US: 4
AP Psych: 5
AP Bio: 3

300 Church community service hours
Involved in Korean church related youth group
Students Run LA (completed marathon in 11th grade and training to do it this year too in Feb 2009)
Achieved second degree black belt in 11th grade (however, discontinued Tae Kwon Do this year)

A weakpoint of mine is that I haven't done anything really productive with my summers. So please help me out guys. Oh and I did not qualify for the ELC thing (I am at the 5% mark, arg for competitive schools), but the letter said I was on mark for going to UCs. How am I looking, CC?

nice to see another korean cali kid here. haha

ur high UC gpa is ur savior; the test scores are okay, but its the gpa that really stands out (slightly above average for cal and ucla). i see almost no leadership except maybe in church activities....:( ELC would have helped a lot

since you're in state..

cal/LA: slight reach
SD: pretty much in (yes, the gap between cal/LA and SD admissions are that big)

Does ELC really help that much?

You might be ELC qualified statewide.
And I think ELC might help a bit, since it shows how high your rank in your school is.

B/c of your GPA, I'd say UCLA/UCB: 40-65% chance.

Your GPA makes up for your lack of leadership positions, and the SAT score is decent so yeah you definitely have a chance.

What did you do with your summers?

I went to summer school during one summer and generally I went on like 1 month vacations the others.

I'm gonna have to agree with low reach for LA and Berkeley.

Sorry for most of the people that want me to chance them back, I'm not particularly familiar with a lot of those colleges.

ya UCLA and UCB should be easy you should apply to stanford or rice or maybe some ivies although that might be a reach it's worth a try but ya ucb and la your set just don't f your essay
