UC majors?

Hi, I was just wondering for the UC’s will your major be a key point in admission or rejection? I know that some have a school system where you apply to certain schools, but for UCSD if I put down Computer Science will I have a lessened chance of getting in when compared to if I put Economics? What about Irvine will Donald Bren’s School of Information and Computer Science be harder to get into(especially if I choose to not take the Math Level 2 test)?

Berkeley

Freshman Admission - Majors within each college are equally competitive, except engineering (admit rates vary between majors). Admit rates can vary widely between colleges and Berkeley has stopped publishing the admit rates by college. If I remember correctly, the last set of data showed L&S and Environmental Design to be the most competitive colleges on campus (excluding engineering). Natural Resources was the least competitive. The data I’m referencing is at least 4 years old, so the information may be outdated. The campus does not consider alternate major.

Transfer Admission - Transfer applicants are admitted by division or major and the admit rates are published online at http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/12626_5.Info_TransAdm.pdf</a> (page 5). The campus does not consider alternate major.

Davis

Freshman Admission - Admit rates vary between colleges. College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and College of Biological Sciences are the most competitive colleges on campus and all majors within each of those colleges are equally competitive. Admit rates for L&S vary by division within the college (social sciences is the most competitive, arts & humanities is the least competitive). Engineering admits by department. Alternate major is considered; you should pick something that is in a different division or college than your first choice major.

Transfer Admission - Transfer applicants are admitted by major. Some majors will screen for completion of major prerequisites, see [UC Davis : Selective major requirements](http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admission/transfers/tr_select_majors.cfm) for more information. Alternate major is considered; however, you must also have the major prerequisites completed (or pick a major that does not screen for prerequisites).

Alternate major is considered; however, you must also have the major prerequisites completed (or pick a major that does not screen for prerequisites).

UCLA

All other colleges have supplemental applications. Alternate major is rarely considered and only occurs in engineering (first choice and alternate must both be in engineering).

Transfer Admission - Transfer applicants are admitted by major and major prerequisites are screened for EVERY major. Admit rates are published online at [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions/url.
