UC Merced 2013 Spring Transfer

Hey Everyone! My GPA right now is a 2.88 and I'm a biology major at a CC. As long as I make the cutoff for the requirements below I should be totally guaranteed right?

Be enrolled full time at a California community college (Contact Admissions about exceptions are possible for part-time students)

Completed 30 UC transferable units

Earned a minimum GPA of 2.8 for majors in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (a GPA of 3.0 is required for Psychology), a 2.9 for majors in the School of Natural Sciences and a 3.0 for majors in the School of Engineering.

Complete the minimum eligibility requirements for admission in English and Math by the end of the Fall 2011 term.

Complete the academic criteria listed below for your major by the end of the Spring 2012 term with a grade of "C" or better.

Complete 60 UC Transferable units by the end of the Spring 2012 term.

I know I'm a biology major and the GPA requirement for the School of Natural Sciences is a 2.9 but I was planning on just transferring to the School of Social Sciences as an Anthropology Major (I have the prereq done) and changing my major when I get there? Is it difficult to change majors from school to school?

Thanks in advance!

Also thought I’d add that I have IGETC completed! I wish my GPA was just a bit higher…

No, the minimum GPA you are seeing is the requirement for admission officers to “look” at your application. You won’t be guaranteed, but you will be considered. Look at this way, you are competing for limited seats against other competitive students who have higher GPA.

::EDIT:: Oh, wait. You’re talking about TAG!! Then yes, as long as you meet minimum requirements and satisfy them all the way through then you will be guaranteed transfer!!

That is the TAG Matrix though, lawlking

Isn’t it if I meet the requirements, it’s guaranteed admission?

^^I edited it

Okay… whew Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear! Thanks a lot, it’s a relief to know that. For Fall Semester should I still be a full-time student? Also if I get a D in Physics 2 (Electricity & Magnetism) will that affect my TAG? I will still have above 2.8.

Unfortunately, yes it will IF it’s for your major. Here is UC-Merced requirement for your major:

You need to finish them with a minimum of “C” (“B” in some classes like BIO)
School of Natural Sciences:
Majors in the School of Natural Sciences require a minimum GPA of 2.9. TAGs for the majors listed below require you to complete the following UC Merced course requirements at your community college prior to enrolling in the University:

Applied Mathematics:
• CHEM 2,
• MATH 21, 22
• PHYS 8, 9

Biological Science:
• BIO 01, 01L (with no grade less than “B”)
• CHEM 2, 10
• MATH 11 or 21
• PHYS 8 or 18

Chemical Science:
• CHEM 2, 10
• MATH 21, 22
• PHYS 8, 9

Earth System Sciences:
• CHEM 2, 10
• MATH 11 or 21
• PHYS 8 or 18

Physics:
• CHEM 2
• MATH 21, 22
• PHYS 8, 9

Okay, thanks! But if I apply to their School of Social Sciences it shouldn’t matter right? I think I’m going to get a C in Physics anyways, but it’s good to know. Is changing majors from school to school difficult?

Also when are Spring Transfer decisions available? Can I move to Merced as early as winter?

Thanks a lot lawlking.

If you want to be an anthropology major, why not just apply your tag as anthropology and not biology?

Why not try for UCSC or Riverside? Or bring your GPA up a bit and try for UCI/Davis/UCSB/UCSD. Is Merced your 1st chioce?
