I was accepted to Cal Poly Pomona as a math major for Fall 2012. I have thought about waiting a semester out for Spring 2013 admissions to UC Merced, but it's really only because of the "UC" name and that what's taught there is more theoretical, perhaps.

Anyway, maybe what I'm thinking is stupid (especially with the fee hikes to come).

Should I just stick with Cal Poly Pomona? Is it the better school?

CPP. If you are form So Cal, it will be hard to adjust to Nor Cal. Personally, I go to UC Davis as a chemistry major and I have to say… totally hate it. Not sure why? Then again, I first went to a community college in So Cal and transfer to UCD. I was more adjusted to So Cal. I did get really homesick.

I grew up in So Cal and Nor Cal isn’t so bad. Merced is much less crowded. I hate the So Cal freeways. One thing to consider is that there are more seasonal changes in Merced (and Davis). And in the summer, Merced and Davis get HOT. The air might be a bit cleaner in Merced, but I’m not sure.

Thanks for responding guys. I really do hate the So Cal highways.

The cost is the same regardless. I have a tuition-waiver, no matter how high the tuition goes.

I was considering UC Merced back then and was considering transferring there until I found out I could only potentially transfer to UCI, UCD, or UCR from Cal Poly Pomona.

I would exceed their unit caps. Most of them have a 90 semester unit limit of combined credits. My total number of units from my CC is 90 to begin with.
