Hello @Meooow! Excellent question; I’m not too familiar with the life of transfer students, but I do know of one transfer student at UC Merced that I keep in touch with, and he seems to fit in just fine! I would imagine if you are an older student enrolling, it is a little hard because you are in a different place in your life and will have to interact with 18-19 year olds that are just learning how to be adults. Yet I still don’t think that it should discourage you from attending, because the students here are really sociable and welcoming. If you do attend UCM, you’ve got a friend here
I was thinking about entering into UC Merced for the 2015 fall semester, but have noticed that their four year graduation rates are less than 40%. I was wondering if anyone knew why this was.
Man, these guys really like to push the deadlines! Im assuming that if you are notified on May 1st, you are probably not getting in. I wish they would just tell me, just so I know if my tuition money is going to Arizona or staying in California…
I wouldn’t let the 4 year grad rate deter you. It can be influenced by factors like students working while going to school, taking remedial courses etc. The UCM students I’ve spoken to haven’t had trouble getting required classes or graduating on time.
@ThisGuy98 I doubt it. From what Ive read around the forums UCI UCM and UCSB are taking long. I asked Ms Sun the lady with the blog on UCs about them taking long and if it means Im most likely rejected and she said
“I think those are the remaining three campuses that are still dragging their feet releasing transfer admission decisions. I talked to Irvine today and it just sounded like they are still sitting on a ton of decisions (although no explanation for why). Hang in there.”
@ThisGuy98 @val916 Accepted. Major: Computer Science and Engineering as transfer.
@Meooow Did they email you? when did you find out? I havent received anything yet
@val916 I first found out on MyMerced, or on their website at around 4ish and received the email at 7. I currently have GPA (transferable) barely above 3.00. For other future applicants, I should mention I haven’t completed all necessary required courses according to Assist.org.
My friend is also still under review. Same for you on what I advised him, if you get rejected, I highly recommend you to appeal your admission decision. Considering they have low number of applicants, it should guarantee you some chances.
@meooow @val916 as of this morning, I havent heard anything either Ill let you guys know when I get my decision.
@Meooow @ThisGuy98 I got accepted!! keep checking your portal. I didn’t receive an email I just happened to check
@val916 Could you share me your completion of required courses for your major and GPA? My best pal is waiting on it and I believe he missed some classes as well.
@val916 Congratulations!! I just checked and nothing yet.
@ThisGuy98 thanks! dont lose hope!!! let me know what your status is. @Meooow My major is psychology and my gpa is 3.2? maybe lower idk i havent calculated yet because i went to two community colleges so I have two separate gpas. Anyways point is my gpa is mediocre its not anything special (although it did get me waitlisted to uci and ucd) I am currently enrolled in one prereq class and I recently told merced I was going to take another prereq during the summer. Perhaps that is why they accepted me? i updated my classes like 3 days ago. I originally was not planning on taking that prereq but maybe that uped my chances and got me in. what are your friend’s stats? maybe they can take a summer class to make up for the class or classes they need???
@anrarago I have question regarding cost of supplies at Summit’s Marketplace. Are they about as same as local safeway or inflated? I am considering the housing and wanted to know the worth of each meal plan.
@val916 He got rejected. Congrat to you
@ThisGuy98 I’m sorry to hear that I wish you the best on your journey at ASU
Hey, I still haven’t heard from Merced about my transfer application. The ‘My Merced’ site still says “your undergraduate application is currently under review”. I thought decisions were due by May 1st at the latest? Anyone have any ideas, or know of anyone still waiting? I got denied by Berkeley and wait listed at the other 2 UC’s I applied to (Irvine and UCLA). Pretty bummed! Not sure I’d accept a Merced offer, but I’d still rather it be a yes than a no! Hope someone know more than me! Thanks a bunch ya’ll.
@southlaguna they extended the date to may 8th
