UC NOT Socially Dead....?

As an incoming freshman I’m sure many of my peers also share the same concern. We’ve all heard the joke (true or not) that UCSD is socially dead. But people also say that you only get out what you put into it, so I am definitely going to be putting in the effort to create my social life. I definitely plan on joining a few clubs and perhaps fraternity, but I’d like to hear from people with experience on what clubs are more popular and what are some opportunities to socialize with other people. Also I’d really appreciate if anyone can provide any insight into UCSD’s mysterious party scenes/greek life. Thanks in advance!

Word of advice - if you’re asking a question catering to students who are already at a university, you’ll find that this is probably the wrong site to be on. Most people here are parents, high school kids or students seeking to go to the next level. Some place like Reddit would be much better.

Thanks for the input. I’ll definitely be doing that.

Current students are also on Quora , each university has a page on Reddit and Quora.
I think San Diego as a city, has got a lot going for it. UCSD, of the U of Cals, is more the science geek school, and medical and oceanography focused. While other UCs may have more film majors, business, economics, and other humanities and social sciences, or creative writing at Irvine. Berkeley has high ranks in everything, in a much smaller city, but somehow has an allure that San Diego cannot duplicate. It may have something to do with “northern CA versus southern CA”. Also San Diego
is a much newer campus, so less time to get “famous”. I expect San Diego to rise in rank actually in many sciences and engineering.
